Apple Wallet
How to add loyalty cards to Apple Wallet, and where the rest go.
Apple Wallet does not scan a plastic card. A loyalty card gets in only when the shop issues a pass for it, from its own app, so the answer depends entirely on the scheme. Some of the biggest in the UK do. Several just as big do not. This page goes through both, and says plainly where CardJar fits.

Why there is no "add card" button in Wallet
A card in Apple Wallet is a pass: a small file the retailer creates and signs, which carries the barcode, the colours and the name. Wallet shows passes; it does not make them. So a scheme is in Wallet only if the company behind it has built a pass and put an "Add to Apple Wallet" button somewhere, almost always inside its own app.
That is why the same question has a different answer at every till. A shop that issues a pass gets a card on your lock screen. A shop that keeps its card inside its own app, or has never had an app at all, gets nothing, however ordinary the barcode on the back of the plastic.

The big UK schemes, one by one
| Scheme | Apple Wallet pass | Where to add it |
|---|---|---|
| Tesco Clubcard | Yes | Tesco app: your account, then Clubcard management, then the option to add it to your iPhone's wallet |
| Nectar | Yes | Nectar app: tap the QR code on the home screen, then Add to wallet |
| Boots Advantage Card | Yes | Boots app: My Card, then Add to Apple Wallet |
| Morrisons More | Yes | Morrisons More app; Morrisons' help hub has the steps |
| Co-op Membership | Yes | Co-op app, from your membership card |
| Lidl Plus | None we could find | Lidl describes the card only inside the Lidl Plus app |
| M&S Sparks | None we could find | M&S describes a virtual card inside the M&S app |
| myWaitrose | None we could find | Waitrose describes the card in the Waitrose app and on its website |
| Asda Rewards | None we could find | Inside the Asda Rewards app |
"None we could find" means none of the retailer's own help pages or announcements mention an Apple Wallet option for the loyalty card, as of October 2026. It does not mean one could never appear.
Adding the ones that do
Tesco Clubcard
Open the Tesco app, go to your account from the person icon, choose Clubcard management, and pick the option to add the card to your iPhone's wallet. You need a Tesco account for a digital Clubcard.
Nectar
In the Nectar app, tap the QR code on the home screen, then Add to wallet at the bottom. If you added an older version of the card before, Nectar says to delete that one from Wallet first. Esso stations take the barcode version, not the QR code.
Boots Advantage Card
In the Boots app, open My Card and tap Add to Apple Wallet. If your card number ever changes, Boots says to delete the old pass from Wallet and add the new one.
Morrisons More and Co-op Membership work the same way: the button lives in each retailer's own app, next to the card.
The ones Wallet will not take
A card with no pass still has a barcode, and the barcode is the whole card.
What a till scans is an account number drawn as a barcode. Any app that can draw that number the same way can stand in for the plastic. That is what CardJar does on an iPhone: you scan the back of the card, or type the number, and it holds the card full screen and ready, with the brightness turned up, the same as the passes in Wallet beside it.
It recognises 84 British schemes on sight, every one in the table above among them, and takes any other card you type in yourself. There is no account and no sign-up, and the cards stay on the phone, so it works at a till with no signal.
A few schemes now show a code that changes every time you open their app. A saved copy of a code like that stops working, so for the schemes known to do it, CardJar tells you when you add the card rather than leaving you to find out at the till.

QR codes as well as stripes
Three of the four without a pass use a QR code.
Lidl Plus, Co-op Membership and M&S Sparks are square codes, not striped barcodes. CardJar draws QR, Aztec, Data Matrix and every common striped format, on a white plate so a scanner reads it even with the phone in dark mode.
Star the cards you use most and they sit at the top of the jar, one tap from opening the app.

Questions about loyalty cards and Apple Wallet
How do I add a loyalty card to Apple Wallet?
From the retailer's own app, if it offers one: look for an Add to Apple Wallet button next to your card. Apple Wallet cannot add a loyalty card by scanning it, because a card only appears there once the retailer has issued a pass for it.
Can I add a barcode to Apple Wallet myself?
Not with Wallet alone. Some third-party apps build a pass out of a barcode you scan and hand it to Wallet. The other route is a loyalty card app that draws the barcode itself, which is what CardJar is.
Can I add my Tesco Clubcard to Apple Wallet?
Yes. In the Tesco app, go to your account, then Clubcard management, and choose the option to add the card to your iPhone's wallet.
Can I add my Nectar card to Apple Wallet?
Yes. In the Nectar app, tap the QR code on the home screen, then Add to wallet.
Can I add my Lidl Plus card to Apple Wallet?
We could not find a way. Lidl describes the Lidl Plus card only inside its own app. CardJar recognises Lidl Plus and holds the card on your iPhone instead.
Is CardJar on iPhone?
Yes, on the App Store, built from the same shared code as the Android app. There is no Apple Watch app; the watch app is Wear OS only.
